To the marathon runner who came last.

The politician who won the last election by the smallest of margins.

The radio announcer with the struggling ratings.

The football team on the cusp of relegation.

The understudy who never gets to shine.

The violinist on the least prestigious end of the row.

The preacher with an audience that could be counted on two hands.

The fisherman with a near empty bucket.

To you each, I take my hat off and give my congratulations.

Because whilst others may mock and point with derision, you tried.

And more than that, you had the courage to participate.

You have achieved something that others have never dared to attempt.

You have put yourselves out there and for that you have my admiration.

Well done!
