Joseph Addison once said, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”
I know it seems obvious, but do we act on it?
We live in a world that increasingly requires us to utilise our brain effectively and dynamically.
But are we developing our mind so that we can optimise our capability?
A regular exercise regime will do wonders for your long-term health, so do you have a reading routine that will ensure your mind stays in great condition as well?
Here are a few keys:
- Have a daily reading routine,
- Develop reading goals,
- Read widely,
- Read authors who stretch you and occasionally, whom you disagree with,
- If you’re in a rut and feel like giving up, read something fun,
- Use a highlighter or take notes,
- Ask people you respect for recommendations,
- Always have a book with you,
- If you miss a day, don’t worry about it and don’t try to make it up, just start again the next day.
And a bonus tip:
- Try not to be one of those obnoxious people who boasts about their latest literary reading project.
What great books have you read lately?
