American writer and multiple Pulitzer Prize winner, Colson Whitehead says,
“The world may be mean, but people don’t have to be, not if they refuse.”
Do I hear an Amen?
The world does seem mean at the moment.
People are getting sick.
People are getting sick and tired.
People are yelling.
People are looking for thing to yell about.
And unfortunately, there’s a lot for them to find.
The world may be mean, but people (you and I) don’t have to be, not if they (you and I) refuse.
Don’t let the harshness of the world poison and harden your heart.
Don’t let it fill you with suspicion and cynicism.
Refuse.
Cover it with love.
I’m not saying don’t get angry at injustice.
I’m saying don’t get mean.
