American psychologist, William James, once said,

Compared with what we ought to be, we are only half awake.  We are making use of only a small part of our physical and mental resources.  Stating the thing broadly, the human individual thus lives far within his limits. He possesses powers of various sorts which he habitually fails to use.”

We can read this and think about a range of people of whom these words are very true and criticise them for their lack of effort and achievement.

We can read this and judge ourselves harshly, reminding ourselves of our failures and inadequacies.

Or we can read this, take a deep breath and resolve to wake up, to push our limits further and to utilise the remarkable capabilities that we have, to make the world a better place.
