Confession time.  This is something that I’m terrible at.

I think of something that I know I should do.

Give this person a call, send an email, make sure that you don’t forget to acknowledge that milestone.

I hesitate or get caught up in the busyness of the day and then the moment is gone.

I should have, but I didn’t, much to my disappointment.

In the past week, I had two promptings that I’m glad I listened to.

I remembered a birthday for one of my staff.  A quick trip to buy a card and someone felt more valued as a consequence.

Then a couple of days ago, another staff member rang to say that her husband was going into hospital.  The next day, I thought, “I should ring to check how the operation went.”

It wasn’t a long call, but it meant a lot to her.

I’m not bragging, I wish that I listened and showed that I cared more often.

But it’s a simple reminder that every time I have taken notice of the opportunity to show others how much they are valued, it has been worth the effort.

Every single time!

So, listen to the promptings and start to build better relationships with the people around you.
