When we say that we’re busy, we’re generally using code for something else.

We’re either telling people that we are unable to prioritise.

Or we’re saying that we’re disorganised and inefficient.

Or we’re giving the impression that we’re unable to cope with the pressure.

Or maybe that we’ve chosen busyness over effectiveness.

Or we’re reminding people that we’re unable to say “no.”

So, next time someone asks how you are going. before you respond with an obligatory “I’m really busy,” stop and think about the message that you’re really sending.
