Merry Christmas from Madison, Logan and Hayden

It’s that time of year again when we send and receive Christmas cards with updates from friends and family.  I have a few family members who write lovely letters with the details of their year and so here is the annual message from our tribe.

2018 has been an amazing year, with lots of adventures as the kids continue to grow and develop, and my work situation changed dramatically.

Our oldest son, Hayden, turned 13 in March and he continues to grow into a fantastic young man.  He started high school and youth group this year and is now as tall as me.  He has had another reasonably successful year with his sporting endeavours, despite a range of injuries.  He broke the school record for the high jump and continued to do well with his football and basketball, although he was restricted by back, ankle, Achilles and hamstring issues for most of the year.  Hopefully, that’s behind him now.  He started his first “job” this year, volunteering as a leader in kids’ Church, where he helped to look after pre-school children during the church services.

Madison turned 11 in November and has had a wonderful year as well.  She is also very active, with a passion for netball and gymnastics.  She also did very well with her athletics and made it through to the regional level for cross country, although she couldn’t compete as she broke her arm a couple of weeks before the event.   She’s done really well at school and continues to delight (and occasionally frustrate) us with her energy and enthusiasm.

Logan turned 11 in November as well (of course) and he had a great year as well.  He has continued to play basketball, although his real passion is for Dragonball Z and bugs of all shapes and sizes.  He is a loyal, funny friend and continues to do well at school.

They are all still playing the piano and have continued to improve.  As you may be able to tell, we are very proud of them each.

Karen has had a good year at work.  She works in a local Christian school and is able to drop off and pick the kids up from school which is nice.  She delights in watching the kids doing their thing and is an incredibly supportive mum and wife.

For myself, it has been a fascinating year.  For a range of reasons, as the year went on, I felt it was time to finish up the business and re-enter the corporate world.  As a consequence, I was fortunate to find a role as a manager with an industry Superannuation fund.  It was a massive move for me, but a very rewarding one.  I’ve been blessed to find a role where I can utilise my skills whilst working with some wonderful people.  Commuting again has been an interesting challenge, and I am unable to attend as many of the kids’ events, but it has still been a very positive change and I am grateful to have my weekends back after 8 years of running the business.

As a family, we love Christmas and can’t wait to celebrate the birth of Jesus together with the extended family.  I hope that you have a fantastic Christmas and festive season and thanks for your support and encouragement throughout the year.
