Most organisations have a set of values or mission statement.

They are created with much consultation and launched with great fanfare.

They are painted on the entrance to the office in large, bold letters.

And far too often, that’s virtually the last we hear of them.

Sure, they’re on the stationery, but their not on the hearts and minds of the people who matter.

If you’re a leader, it’s time to take your values down from the wall and give them a pulse.

It’s time to talk about them in every meeting.

To point out when they are personified.

To role-model them explicitly.

To tell stories about them.

To create living, walking posters about them that everyone can recognise.  “See Bill over there? He is the king of …”

If you’re a leader, this is your job.

And remember, we’re all leaders!
