I’m reading Bruce Springsteen’s autobiography, “Born to Run,” and he describes the process of writing one of his greatest hits.

He had the idea for the song, but couldn’t get it quite right.

The lyrics and the arrangements weren’t quite there.

He knew what he wanted to say and how he wanted to say it, but the finished product took six months to complete.

Six months!

For one song!

It was worth it though, as Born to Run became a smash hit and one of his calling cards.

I don’t know what you’re working on at the moment.

Perhaps it’s taking longer than you expect.

Perhaps you’re tempted to give up, or just ship the incomplete product.

But today I want to encourage you, it will take as long as it takes.

Keep working hard.

Stay focused.

Persist, persist, persist.

Don’t look for short-cuts.

Keep your standards high.

Don’t compromise your vision.

And most importantly, get it done!
