We can’t have awesome days every day.

It would be nice if we could, but that’s not something I can promise.

People will be mean to you.

You will feel sick or lethargic.

Your goals will feel further away than ever.

You will feel as though nothing is going right.

When you’re in this situation, here are 10 things you should do:

  1. Don’t do anything you will regret later – Don’t quit your job or storm out on a friendship just because you’ve had one bad day.  You don’t want to turn your ordinary day into a terrible week, month or year.
  2. Be grateful – Yes, that’s hard when you’re feeling down, but I’m sure that there is something you can be grateful for that will help you to change your perspective on your situation.
  3. Maintain your routine – If you read every day, keep reading. If you normally go to the gym, get up and go.  At least you will be able to look back on your worst day and know that you have still accomplished something.
  4. Don’t take it out on those closest to you – Just because you’re having a bad day, it doesn’t mean you have to give everyone else a bad day, too.  Let them know how you feel, give yourself some space if you need it, but don’t push those who care for you away.
  5. Do the work – I know, you feel like putting on your pyjamas and binge-watching Netflix, but there’s still work to be done.  You may not be as productive as usual, but you can still make progress and ensure that your inbox doesn’t overflow.
  6. Don’t dump your feelings on social media – A wise man once said, “Don’t Facebook your problems, face your problems.  Looking for sympathy on social media is never a good look and will only diminish your reputation amongst those who respect you.
  7. Don’t be too hard on yourself – Today isn’t the day to catalogue all of your past failures and recall in vivid detail all of the times that you have let people down.  Yes, we all make mistakes, but we also need to leave the past in the past, forgive ourselves and move on.
  8. Keep going – This is your worst day, but it’s not your last day.  The most successful people in any field have all had bad days, but they didn’t let it stop them from achieving greatness.

I hope that today is a good day for you, but on your very worst days, remember that there is always something you can do to make a positive difference.
