Nelson Mandela once said,
“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”
This is my prayer for you today.
That your career decisions.
Your voting decisions.
Your financial decisions.
You know what you should do next.
You know what your career can look like.
You know how hard you should be working.
You know how you should be treating your loved ones.
You know how you should discipline your kids.
Death is a morbid subject, but it’s inevitable for all of us.
But before we die we all have a wonderful opportunity to live.
To go after those dreams that God has placed in your heart.
To build a meaningful career doing work that matters.
To take adventures.
Your success isn’t dependent upon your external circumstances.
You don’t need the stars to align to do remarkable things with your life.
Those obstacles in your way may slow you down for a moment, but they don’t need to stop you.
And you don’t need everyone around you to be cheering you on.
You just need an anytime, anywhere attitude.
When the boss is away, that’s not the time to slack off, that’s the time to step up.
When your business is extremely busy, that’s not the time to cave in under the pressure, that’s the time to step up.
When you’re behind on a deadline, that’s not the time to make excuses, that’s the time to step up.
When your team is behind late in the last quarter, that’s not the time to give up, that’s the time to step up.
That first draft that you wrote, that you quickly tore up in embarrassment.
That first speech you ever gave, when you stuttered and shook and didn’t look up once.
That first sales call, when you felt incredibly awkward and was hung up on.
That first attempt at cooking, when you burnt the toast and ended up eating out.
When life gets on top of you, you have two choices.
You can see yourself as having been buried.
All of your problems have pushed you under and there’s no chance of escape.
It’s dark, it’s dreary and you may as well just give up.
Alternatively, you can see yourself as having been planted.
Philosopher Elbert Hubbard once said,
“Parties who want milk should not seat themselves on a stool in the middle of a field in hopes that a cow will back up to them.”
You know he’s right.
