Every office has a guy like Bob.

He’s Mr Average.

He’s always the last to arrive and the first to leave.

He has longer coffee breaks than anyone else.

If there’s a tough team deadline to achieve, you can almost guarantee that he’ll call in sick.

He’s always looking over his shoulder to see if the boss is there.

He’s the worst performer with the worst attitude and the worst work ethic.

Guys like Bob are a pain to work with, but to some people they can have their benefits.

“At least I’m better than Bob,” they can boast after a poor result.

Don’t let that be you.

Don’t compare yourself with the least capable.

Don’t rest on the laurels of not being the worst.

Aim for greatness.

Aim to be your best.

Don’t aim to be better than Bob, aim to be better than you were yesterday.

That’s the standard you should be striving for.

(Please note, any similarity to someone named Bob is purely coincidental, so please don’t email this to someone called Bob, although that’s probably something I would do.  If your name is, fee free to replace the name with Betty, or better yet, Darren)
