In one of his books, Steven Pressfield asks:
Did Rhapsody in Blue come to Gershwin in the shower?
Was J.K. Rowling baking a pie when she first imagined Hogwarts?
Or was he at the piano and she at her writing desk?
You know the answer.
Inspiration needs to find you working.
I’m not saying that you can’t get great ideas in the shower or baking, but the best ideas most consistently come when you’re hard at it.
In the office.
In the garage.
At your keyboard.
On your guitar.
Free from distractions.
Focused and persistent, even when the ideas don’t flow freely.
So stop waiting for inspiration before you start working.
Start working and the inspiration comes.
