Every day, when I’m driving the kids home from school, we pass a small pond that has a bird incubating its eggs on a tiny island in the middle of the water.
Eventually, after a few weeks, the little chicks will start breaking through their shells.
We’re not that different, as humans, we have a tendency to incubate thing that eventually emerge.
If you spend too much time thinking about all the times you’ve been hurt or abused, a bitter twisted person emerges.
If you take the time to remember everything that you have to be grateful for, a happy, satisfied person emerges.
If you spend your days constantly reminding yourself how unlucky you are, a victim emerges.
If you focus on finding solutions to your problem, a more resourceful person emerges.
Philippians 4:8 says, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.”
My suspicion is that if you spend your time incubating a list like that, a better person emerges.
