The first time you try a new software application, you fluff around like an idiot while you get used to it.
Then you become an expert.
When you try a new golf swing, you feel stupid and unnatural for a while.
Then it feels better and you get better.
Most people feel self-conscious and awkward the first time they speak in public.
Then over time they become more comfortable and confident.
I can still remember the first time I asked a client for money when I started my business almost 6 years ago. I stuttered and stalled and must have sounded like a clown.
Now I do it on a daily basis without compunction.
We don’t like feeling dumb.
We live in a world that fears and avoids embarrassment.
But we need to learn and we need to grow, so we need to try new things.
So be prepared to feel dumb and be prepared to flail around.
Because sometimes that’s what it takes to get better.
