Fear-sells-but-you-dontBoorish politicians try to get our vote by peddling fear.  They develop and repeat pithy 3 word slogans that cater to our worst fears and concerns, creating mistrust, suspicion and division, especially towards those who look and think differently to the rest of us.

Cheeky marketers do the same.  They want to us to fear missing out, looking different or not being trendy enough.

As for those pesky media agencies, they know that we would rather watch bad news than good.  If there is a negative perspective regarding the economy, immigration or even sports, they’ll spin it that way to get us watching and nodding our heads in concern.

Unfortunately, fear sells and we’re all buying.

We complain about the standards of our politicians, our marketers and the media, but if their strategies didn’t work, they wouldn’t be doing it.

When the Angel of the Lord came to announce the birth of Jesus at the very first Christmas, he said, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”

So do not be afraid.

Because despite what you hear from politicians, marketers and the media, this is a time for great joy.

It’s a time for hope.

It’s a time for boldness.

It’s a time of endless opportunities.

It’s a time for love and reconciliation.

What are you buying?
