Regret-is-what-youDon’t be afraid of contracting ebola.

Don’t lay awake at night worrying about terrorists.

Don’t fret about something happening to your kids.

Don’t be scared of the government, immigrants, being made redundant or delinquent youths.

What should you fear the most?

One of my favourite authors, Chris Guillebeau (The $100 Startup: Reinvent the Way You Make a Living, Do What You Love, and Create a New Future and The Happiness of Pursuit: Finding the Quest That Will Bring Purpose to Your Life), puts it this way:

“Regret is what you should fear the most. If something is going to keep you awake at night, let it be the fear of not following your dream.”

It’s easy to be afraid of things that we don’t control and that the media will push down our throats as something to be afraid of.

But they are extremely unlikely to happen to you.

However, this you can be sure of.

If you live a mediocre life…

If you don’t pursue your goals with passion…

If you allow yourself to become preoccupied with irrational fears…

You will regret it for the rest of your life.

And that is something that you should be afraid of.
