As a father of three kids, I’ve read more than my fair share of Dr Suess books over the years.
Born Theodor Geisel, he is a great example of persistence, having been rejected by over 20 publishers before finally getting his break as a book writer. He went on to sell over 600 million books!
The wonderful rhythm and rhyme of his books makes them a fantastic tool for teaching children the basics of reading, but in addition to his quirky stories there are some fantastic quotes for us adults as well.
Here are some of my favourite quotes from Dr Suess:
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get better. It’s not!
You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in whatever direction you choose.
The more that you read. The more things you will know. The more that you learn. The more places you’ll go.
You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!
Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.
Why fit in when you were born to stand out?
Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
It’s better to know how to learn than to know.
Today is the day I shall behave as if this is the day I will be remembered.
It’s a troublesome world. All the people who’re in it are troubled with troubles almost every minute. You ought to be thankful, a whole heaping lot, for the places and people you’re lucky you’re not.
Will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed).
I hope that you are inspired by these fantastic quotes as much as I am.
