It’s tempting to try to run away from situations where you feel nervous.

If you have an inadequate perspective about nerves they can make you feel uncomfortable, anxious or even paralyse you with fear.

And so we have a tendency to avoid job interviews, public presentations and sales pitches whenever possible.

But nerves are your friend.

They remind you that what you are doing matters.

They remind you that you care.

They give you the energy that you need to perform at a high level.

They’re not the kind of friend who keeps you satisfied with being the same.  They’re the kind of friend who encourages you to do better.

We all need a friend like that.
