Mike Dooley once said,

“The one thing all famous authors, world class athletes, business tycoons, singers, actors, and celebrated achievers in any field have in common is that they all began their journeys when they were none of these things.  Yet still, they began their journeys.”

I love this quote as it reminds me that no-one was born successful and everyone had to start somewhere.

They had an idea, a dream, a goal and they started moving towards it.

I was recently reflecting about the time when Karen and I started our business four years ago.

We didn’t know if it was going to work, but we were looking for a way to make some extra money and were excited about the idea of helping people to find meaningful work, so we placed an ad for our resume writing and career coaching services in a local paper.

That one small action led to our first paying clients, which was a very exciting start.

Over time, we needed to earn more money to pay for our kid’s private school fees, so we place more ads in a wider area.

We then had our website created and eventually built up to a point where we were able to launch our business full-time.

Why am I telling this story?

It’s not because we’ve reached a point where I can say that we have achieved greatness with our business yet.

But we’re off and running.

We had an idea, took action and got started.

We’re doing work that we truly love and have been able to make a reasonable living from it.

I get to work from home with my wife, spend quality time with my kids and help people from all over Australia to find work that adds meaning to their lives as well.

And none of that would have happened if we hadn’t plucked up the courage to start our journey.

I don’t know what your aspirations are.  I’m almost certain that they’re different from mine.

But what I do know is that every journey starts somewhere.

So be bold and take that first step.
