My kids are at the age when cartoons are still the television show of preference.   My youngest son, Logan, loves super heroes, with Spiderman, Superman, Batman and the Incredible Hulk his favourites.

Of course, good guys need bad guys to deal with.  Lex Luthor is Superman’s nemesis and the Joker keeps Batman on his toes.

They battle, the good guys win and the bad guys are locked up or lick their wounds and slink away.

So, why would I admire the bad guys?  I have two main reasons:

They persist in the face of insurmountable odds – It would be easy for Lex and the Joker to just give up, but they don’t.  They could move town to get away from the heroes, but they keep coming back for more.  They are able to maintain their hope and that’s an admirable trait.

They keep coming up with new ideas – Over and over again, the bad guys come up with a new and create way to try to commit absurd crimes or defeat the good guys.  It may be frustrating to lose every time, but they keep coming up with new ideas to overcome their obstacles.  I have great admiration for people who can continue to plot and scheme to come up with innovative means to achieve their goals.

I don’t know what your situation is, but I suspect that with persistence, hope and the continued ability to generate and implement new ideas, you’ll be OK.

Just make sure that you use your powers for good, instead of evil.
