The bar never stays the same.

We don’t stay at the same level for long.

The standards that we set for ourselves are either more challenging, or we are more likely to make excuses for ourselves.

We are either improving or regressing.

We are either becoming more positive or more negative.

Our network and level of influence is either increasing or decreasing.

We are either becoming more energised by our work, or fatigued by it.

So take some time to look through every aspect of your life and ask yourself, “Is the bar getting higher or lower?”

Are you consciously trying to find ways to improve or allowing life to erode your effectiveness?

I know that it takes more effort, expertise and training to jump over a bar that’s constantly getting higher, but the feeling of satisfaction that you get when you do makes it all worthwhile.

Conversely, if you’re trying to maintain your performance at a certain level, your strengths will atrophy and your enthusiasm will wane, leading to a decrease in performance and effectiveness.

So, if you’re continuing to raise the bar, that’s awesome!

If not, it’s never too late to start again.
