I was recently asked by one of my subscribers if I could write a letter that she could print and frame to give as a present for her 14 year-old son’s birthday.

This is what I wrote.

Dear …,

As you reach your 14th birthday, I don’t know what the future holds for you.

But this I do know:

There will be challenges, but they can be overcome.

There will be moments when you feel as though you don’t have the answers, but you can learn.

There will be times when you make mistakes, but know that we will always be proud of you.

There will be times when you feel as though you aren’t capable of much, but you have the potential to become truly great.

There will be moments when you feel as though everything is hopeless, but you still have an exciting future and there is a purpose for your life.

And there will be times when you don’t think that anyone is watching, but God is watching, we’re watching and one day, the whole world will be watching.

I don’t know what the future holds for you, but we can’t wait to be a part of it.

Happy birthday …, we love you and know that you are destined for great things.

I hope that this letter is meaningful for this 14 year-old.

And I hope that the hope contained within it is an encouragement to you, too.
