There are lots of reasons not to follow your calling:
- It’s not the right time.
- It’s too risky.
- How can I be sure that what I’m doing really is my life’s purpose?
- Everyone will think that I’m crazy.
- No-one I know is doing it, so why should I?
- I’m too comfortable and too well-paid compromising my calling in my current job.
- It’s too late, I’ve missed my chance.
- I’ll be too embarrassed if I fail and have to go back to my old life.
- It all seems a bit too hard.
- I’m not the sort of person who follows my calling, that’s for more deserving people.
Too many people use these and other reasons to excuse them from living a purposeful life that’s true to their life’s calling.
But you only need one reason to say yes to following your dreams.
You were placed here, with specific God-given abilities and talents to make a positive impact on the world. There is a job to do, and only you can do it!
Do you really need any other reason?
And do all of the other reasons really outweigh it?

I -really- loved this Darren. I remember some of those excuses, but I didn’t think of -all- the ones you shared. haha! People also need to remember that no one else is -living- their life, they are. It’s their life, what do they want to do with it? Are they going to allow someone else -control- their life? All very good questions to think about for some. 🙂
Also, having an idea of what you know you’re passionate about doing -helps- immensely. I know I didn’t quite have an idea of what I wanted to do in the earlier part of my life. I had ideas. What I -did- know is that I love to help people. In my heart of hearts, this has always been a constant. However, I also have many gifts, skills and talents.
My advice for people still trying to find their calling or thinking of stepping out upon that branch is, stick with what you know and you know your good at. You might be surprised by the results. Like with me and Writing. Took me until I was 12 to really understand and comprehend the Written Word and even to use it effectively.
Now here I am almost a decade and a half later or so and I -love- writing and my friends and family know I can write well when I put my mind to it. I’m also in the process of trying to complete my 1st novel and see it to publication. 🙂
So keep your chin up because the thing you least expect, might be the glowing gem you seek in the end all along. 🙂
