I love Christmas.

It’s one of my favourite times of the year, but I know that many people find it stressful.  One of the reasons it can be so stressful is that it can be a very expensive period for a lot of people.

As such, here are a few free gifts that you can give to those around you this Christmas.

They may not cost you a cent, but they can add significant value to those around you:

A smile – Smiles are free to the giver, but can mean a lot to the receiver, especially at a time when so many people are stressed.

An encouraging word – People can never hear too many encouraging things and this is a great time to tell those around you how much you appreciate them.

A listening ear – Sometimes, people are looking for someone to listen to their story.  By taking the time to hear what they have to say, you can help them to get something off their chest and feel valued.

Time – Volunteering your time at a Christmas luncheon for the underprivileged or helping to pack Christmas hampers can be a wonderful gift to people who otherwise would have very little to celebrate at Christmas.

An extra seat at your Christmas lunch – I know what you’re thinking, feeding someone isn’t free.  However, I suspect that, like most people, you’ll have so much food that you’ll have enough to spare.  Is there someone you know who would otherwise spend Christmas alone?

A message of hope – To me, Christmas is a great time to reflect on the coming of Jesus.  I believe that His coming is a message of hope for all people everywhere and reminding people of the true meaning of Christmas is a great free gift.

In the midst of everything else that goes on at Christmas, why not give one or more of these free gifts.

Are there any other free gifts that you can think of to give away at Christmas time?
