Joe Montana is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.  He won four Superbowls with the San Fransisco 49ers and was MVP of the Superbowl game a record three times.

Year after year, the team ran head coach Bill Walsh’s same offense.  At the beginning of each season, Bill would install the offense the exact same way, going through each play with the team in exactly the same order.

The first play he installed every year was called “22 Z In.”

When Paul Hackett became the new offensive coordinator for the 49ers, he went through “22 Z In” with the team just as Bill Walsh instructed him.

Having been with the team for many years and won multiple Superbowls with it, Joe Montana could run “22 Z In” in his sleep.

Paul realised that Montana knew more about “22 Z In” than he did, but when the meeting was over, Paul saw that Joe had taken three pages of notes.

He had documented exactly how Paul wanted to run the play, as well as all of the basics of “22 Z In” and its details.

That’s how winners prepare for success.

They know that there’s always more to learn.

They don’t leave anything to chance.

They know that talent alone won’t get the job done.

They prepare and over-prepare, knowing that such discipline and diligence will eventually reap rewards.

Do you?
