It’s Anzac Day.

It’s a day when Australians remember the significant contribution that our servicemen and women have made to our way of life.

Thousands of young people have  sacrificed their lives on battlefields around the globe to maintain our democracy here in Australia and to keep the peace in volatile parts of the world.

We are blessed to have tremendous freedom here in Australia.  We can do pretty much whatever we want, whenever we want, with whomever we want.

But as I consider the freedom that we have, I can’t help but think that we have a responsibility as well.

We have the freedom to bum around and do nothing with our working lives if we want to, but I think that we have a responsibility to do great work and maximise our potential.

We have the freedom to ignore those in need, but we have a responsibility to share our resources and reach out to the marginalised.

We have the freedom to spend our spare time watching countless hours of TV or surfing the net, but we have a responsibility to expand our minds and share our ideas.

We have the freedom to eat fast food and choose not to exercise, but we have a responsibility to ourselves and our loved ones to ensure that we make the necessary sacrifices to maintain good health, now and into the future.

We have the freedom to let our kids run free, but we have a responsibility to teach the next generation how to be responsible.

We have the freedom to say who comes into our country, but we have a responsibility to be generous towards those who come from desperate situations.

We have freedom and for that I am grateful, but I can’t help feeling that one of the best ways we can express our gratitude is to remember our responsibilities and live a life worthy of those who sacrificed their lives to protect our way of life.

Lest we forget!
